Ain't nothin' like hip-hop music, we like it cause we choose it
There ain't nothin' like hip-hop music, we like it cause we choose it, it, it, it
But I knew this girl and she was amazing, she used to dance to the pulse of a different drummer boy
Some called her rhythm and some called her blues, but me, I called her beautiful

That's how she made me feel
She resides in quiet spaces, sometimes in acoustical places, where two, three, and four-part harmonies would come together to form that doo-wop sound
Existing in spaces and places of love, anger, and pain, her messengers had many faces, but her question remained the same
What's going on? What's the question? She asked me and she actually made me care about the answer

Yeah, this girl I knew was astonishing
She had to dance to the pulse of a different drummer boy
Some called her rhythm and some called her blues, but me, I called her powerful
Cause that's how she made me feel

So I introduced her to my hip-hop and she fell in love with me instantly
At first there was no denying our compatibility, up until the time she became obsessed with me
No more kissing games in the purple rain, her doo-wop stats became beat-boy tracks with lyrical content so explicit you'd need a prophylactic just to listen to it
She fed me and we had hip-hop all straight

Kinda like that 1% black blood thing
And now she's down in cars and on corners, breakdancing and pop-locking
Yes, yes, y'all, and to the break of dawn
And she just can't stop till she gets enough of losing herself

Cause I blame myself cause I should've known
Man, I've always known that I am contagious
I make things that aren't hip-hop try to become me
And to my dismay, she reacted no differently

Yeah, this girl I know, she used to be my escape
She used to dance to the grooves of a different drummer, boy
Some call her rhythm and some call her blues
But now, now I call her hip-hop

Cause today she and me are the same
And don't get me wrong, I love myself and I love the fact that she loves me
I just want her to see the vision she used to see with messages presented so powerfully
So today I release you

Yes, I set you free
And now I stand a fad, waiting patiently for the return
