Ashley Wool

Ashley Wool wrote her first song at the age of 7, to accompany a "butterfly rock star" character she conceived for Halloween that year. Her one-of-a-kind theatrical instincts have informed her artistry ever since. As a freshman at SUNY Geneseo--where she was one of five students in the inaugural class of the school's newly-designed musical theatre major--she released an EP of original songs, Not Otherwise Specified, which she funded by washing dishes in her school dining hall. Recorded in an old brick building that was formerly the town poorhouse and asylum, on eight tracks with live instrumentation and no frills, her "little record that could" gained airplay on numerous radio stations and podcasts, including Sirius XMU, Live365 and Broadc… more »

It was a January afternoon
When you told me to stay warm
And I shivered through my sweatshirt
As I told you I would try
I didn’t want you to leave so soon
But our conversation had dried up
And my heart pounded, and my head hurt
As I looked into your eyes and I tried not to cry

Yeah babe, I’m still here
And I still want you near me
I still want you to stay
Yeah, I hold back tears
All I want is for you to hear me
But you’ve gone away
And left me standing here

And I wanted to hold you
’Cause I’ve been missing the feeling
You assured me it was all right
You wouldn’t push me away
There were so many unspoken words
Lying shattered in the sidewalk cracks
I tried so hard to believe you
The little you had to say, but the tears came anyway

Yeah babe, I’m still here
And I still want you near me
I still want you to stay
Yeah, I hold back tears
All I want is for you to hear me
But you’ve gone away
And left me standing here

Yeah babe, now I’m alone
With nothing to do, nowhere to go but home
The only warmth was behind my eyes
Burning with love that should have passed me by
You’d been my candle, but the wind blew your flame away
Or maybe it was me, it was me

Yeah, I hold back tears
All I want is for you to hear me
But you’ve gone away
And left me standing here

It was a January afternoon
When you left me by the crosswalk
I tried so hard to believe you
But the tears came anyway
