David Ruffin

Davis Eli "David" Ruffin (January 18, 1941 – June 1, 1991) was an American soul singer and musician most famous for his work as one of the lead singers of the Temptations from 1964 to 1968 (or the group's "Classic Five" period as it was later known). He was the lead voice on such famous songs as "My Girl" and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg." Known for his unique raspy and anguished tenor vocals, Ruffin was ranked as one of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine in 2008. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 for his work with the Temptations. Fellow Motown recording artist Marvin Gaye once said admiringly of Ruffin that, "I heard in [his voice] a strength my own voice lacked." more »

I don't think I wanna look into her eyes
She ain't Medusa, no
But she sure gives it one hell of a try
I never knew something could be wrong with
Me fallin' in love with this woman
All she ever seems to do is give me grief, grief, grief

Girl, why you tryin' to make me mad, mad, mad?
I'll feel a little better when I'm sad, sad, sad
Why ya wanna make me cry, cry, cry?
Girl, say ya love me but it feels like a lie, lie, lie

It's a shame my money ain't right
She acts the fool yes lord
That's the one thing bout her I don' like

I never knew something could go wrong so fast (so fast)
I made sacrifice for this woman (for this woman)
And all she ever seems to do is cheat on me
I can't get no sleep

Mad, mad, mad
I'll feel a little better when I'm sad, sad, sad
Why ya wanna make me cry, cry, cry?
Girl, say ya love me but it feels like a lie, lie, lie

Yeah, I'll feel a little better when I'm sad
Why ya wanna make me cry?
Say ya love me but it feels like a lie, lie, lie

Mad, mad, mad
I'll feel a little better when I'm sad, sad, sad
Why ya wanna make me cry, cry, cry?
Girl, say ya love me but it feels like a lie, lie, lie

Look in her eyes
She ain't Medusa but she sure tries
I never knew nothing could be wrong with
Me wanting to be in love with a woman
All they ever seem to do is give me grief, grief, grief

Why ya gotta make me sad, sad, sad?
Always tryin' to make me mad, mad, mad
Why ya wanna see me cry, cry, cry?
And then when you ask if I love you, you lie, lie, lie
Why you wanna fight with me all the time?
It seems nothin' else is on your mind
