COMMENTATOR 1:
The referee blows his whistle to start the second half. City burst forward with the impressive Maddison, but that’s a great interception by Garner, and United are on the counter-attack. The ball is out to Fernandes. He cuts the ball back to Kane; he dummies Mendez and rolls it back to De Jong. He looks up, twenty-five yards out. Oh my, what a goal! Straight past Henderson into the top corner. What a strike! United back in front now, leading two one. The two thousand United fans go crazy, De Jong milking every second.

COMMENTATOR 2:
That goal was slightly against the run of play. City just looked as if they were edging back into the game, but it’s an absolutely wonderful strike from De Jong; the keeper had no chance. The defenders kept backing off, giving him just enough time to switch to his stronger foot.

COMMENTATOR 1:
Can City respond quickly here? The impressive Novak goes past three players as if they weren’t there, and he’s brought down badly by Jones, and he gets a yellow card for his troubles. That was a bad tackle by Jones. Free kick to City about thirty yards out, and Silva is going to float it in. The referee blows his whistle and Silva floats it in …oh, it’s hit the post. It was …Mayer …I can’t see. It’s hit the post and went out. Oh, that was a dangerous effort by City, but it hit the post. I think it was Smith.

COMMENTATOR 2:
Great chance for City to get back into the game, just inches from landing in the back of the net.

COMMENTATOR 1:
City dominating the possession, but just can’t score. United look dangerous every time they go forward. It’s only a few minutes left now, and United standing firm, with Mayer showing his experience. He takes it to the corner and it’s out of play, Novak putting his foot in there. Oh, Novak’s getting upset with Mayer for time-wasting, but he escapes a card there, sensible refereeing. One more chance for City as Maddison robs Garner, slides it out to Silva …oh lovely skill! Floats one in, and the bicycle kick …oh, it’s just over the bar from Peters. Let’s look at the replay.

COMMENTATOR 2:
Another chance for City, and Peters with an audacious attempt on goal with the overhead kick. He did everything right: good technique, but just wide, and looks as if United may have seen this game out.

COMMENTATOR 1:
That definitely would have been goal of the season. United just have to keep the ball for a few more seconds now. Can City get a late equaliser? Let’s see. No, the referee has blown the whistle. It’s all over. It ended up City one, United two: very close for City getting an equaliser. There was drama in that game: VAR decisions, penalties and yellow cards.

COMMENTATOR 2:
Wonderful result for United, which takes them two points clear at the top of the table. Disappointing for City as they’ve come off the back of five straight wins, but a couple of defensive errors and a piece of magic from De Jong gave United the win.

COMMENTATOR 1:
Final score here today: City one, United two.
