Agoo CEP Sefogah They said our rendition of a tradition was but a limitation of our shallow minded misconceptions And so they wanted us to meet their expectations by leaving behind our true form of identification And practice their recommendations through daily meditation But I ask how? How can one attain a height of greater elevation without her true origin? His Origin-Nation And so it happened that their exploration became our frustration For they fed on our total submission Therein they brainwashed us with their religion Deceiving us that our rendition of a tradition was nothing compared to a religion For a religion they said Was a way of life and ours they claimed was a destruction of life Fueling that fire of deception They told us to renounce and reject our ancestors Break any form of link we have with them For our ancestors they claimed were devilish But you see, Our ancestors were once black and we too are black Our ancestors once walked these lands that we too walk now So if our ancestors were devilish Does that not make the sons and daughters of the devil too? Bear in mind, all that those who reject their ancestors today Will one day be rejected by their descendants Should they journey to the after-life You see they know this And so they protect the legacies and the memories of theirs They have built powerful and lasting memories in honour of them They have even succeeded in convincing us to name ours after them And so you see a handsome African boy He is called Prince His best friend is called Charles and the other is called Dickens So I ask, is it Prince Charles or Charles Dickens? You see a pretty African lady and she goes by the name Queen A beautiful name of course But when her best friend is called Elizabeth and the other is called Victoria Again I begin to wonder Is it Queen Elizabeth or Queen Victoria? You see, let the drums of our cultural identity play from here That it may be heard from afar And let us once more dance in recession to the sankofa tunes of time For gone are the days when men were men and women were won by men who deserved them Where the true beauty of an African woman was measured in virtues and values Not in make-ups No wonder today our men marry Only to wake up and break up Because they fell in love with the make-up And our people are in a constant hurry To depart from their culture When actually we were a race as wild as lions Yet as calm as lambs Now, our people hurry pass their own culture with faces buried down Their trust in who they are Has been replaced with shame and pride And tradition has almost vanished in our land You see the dead have played their part The unborn, they are yet to play theirs And we the living now is the time to play ours And we must play it well For whatever we do the unborn will hold us accountable The dead will hold us answerable And We the living Our names will long be forgotten So let us rise and stand as a people Knowing that their exploration has let to our frustration (Ayeeei ei) Megborna
