Joe Thompson

Joe Thompson was an African-American old-time fiddler and banjo player. He was born in 1918 and grew up in North Carolina, where he learned traditional Piedmont-style fiddle and banjo tunes. Thompson was recognized as one of the few remaining African-American musicians who preserved the traditional string band music of the region. He became well-known for his lively performances and his contributions to the revival of old-time music. Thompson passed away in 2012, but his legacy lives on in recordings and the influence he had on younger musicians. more »
