I feel the salt when I'm hopeless
It pools in my eyes like my blues in the ocean
It enters my lungs when I'm opening up
It gets hard, rip tides have me stuck
I keep falling beneath the foam
I keep hearing drip call on the phone
Shell to my ear hear the drone of the waves on the shore
And I'm sure can't cope when you're gone

The summer passed
It was never meant to last
But I thought the gleam of the sun
Would let me hold on to the memories
I saw the ocean ahead of me
I ashed and the water spilled out from inside of me
I remember how bad I gotta breathe
It's not supposed to ever be dark on the shore line
The beach had enough salt water without my sore eyes
At high tide I could put my feet in the water
That's where I reside
At high tide I could put my feet in the water without walking to far from the boardwalk
But It was cold without my jacket
I could tell the ocean cried with me, not for me
I took another step out
Sand sunk me down
Water on the ground
Was that from the sea or was it falling from me
Or was it falling from the clouds
I can't tell anymore
I laid on the shore
I hoped the tide would pull me out
And suddenly I couldn't hold it in
The water spilled from inside of me
The foam or the ash or the rain or the sea or the hopes and the dreams or the thoughts the fears or was it me?
Were we all just floating?
Did the stars in the sky remind me of the foam the waves were holding
Did the clouds drop sweet pieces of the ocean
Did they look after me, or fall on to me
I never knew the feeling so hopeless
I got up soaked, and I walked back to the fences
Drenched my eyes were tired but my body so restless
Hopped in my car and drove home
It was just the next exit
I got in bed and cried myself to sleep
The water was never endless
The water was never endless

I feel the salt when I'm hopeless
It pools in my eyes like my blues in the ocean
It enters my lungs when I'm opening up
It gets hard, rip tides have me stuck
I keep falling beneath the foam
I keep hearing drip call on the phone
Shell to my ear hear the drone of the waves on the shore
And I'm sure can't cope when you're gone

(Cause I ain't got nothing to do
But lay out all day by the pool
I hold my breathe when I dive through
I hold my breathe when I'm next to you
Where is everybody
Nobody's swimming
At this the summer baby?
Where is everybody
Got towels when we finish
Ain't this the summer baby?)

The water was never endless
