Corn's all husked and cribbed up, tools all put away
Woodshed's nearly full up, might need another cord
Barn was feeling drafty, need to fix the broken boards

Indians in the valley, just like every  year
Camped out by the river, hunting rabbits, squirrel and deer
Leaves are falling early, won't be long before snows
They need enough till springtime, when the Piney river flows

It's always good to see the Chief and the band this time of year
They always have some trinkets for trade or sale
The Chief drives a hard bargain, but he's honest and he's fair
And we're always sad to see them go back home

But we hurt for Lucy Whitecloud who was overcome by grief
She lost her son Wa he' ne, only seven years of age
We said a prayer together, as we burned a sprig of sage
