All the people. All the faces
All the old familiar places
Years that it erases

Knew some folks still lived there
Right on the same old block
Slowed the car as I rode bye
I didn't stop to knock

Would they recognize me
If I stopped to say hello?
Would I be just some stranger
Or someone they still know?

Each a piece of history
Unique in their own way
Each provided some small part
Of who I am today

You can move, but you can't leave
The place that you call home
You can grow, but not apart
From roots from which you've grown

They will always be a lens
Through which you see and learn
You can come and visit
But you really can't return
