Pulled out of town late one night                                                  
Watched my rearview till it faded out of sight
My luck had turned on me and left me high and dry
Thought I might need a change more than just getting by

So with everything I owned tied down real tight
I pointed my headlights west and drove into the night
Tuned into the radio and sung every song I could
It was me and Hank and Willie and Kris even the Oak Ridge Boys

Carrying my guitar my jacket and my dreams
Searching for a rainbow and that old pot of gold
Fighting off the loneliness and the feeling of getting cold

Well I met that highway angel down at the rodeo
Said she was going just as far as this road would go
Said she left her cares behind and wanted a new life
Didn't think she fit the part of being someones wife

So I picked up her guitar she took off her pack
She jumped into my 4x4 and I loaded them in the back
When she sang those country songs it made me want to sing along
God it felt so good not to have to be alone
