Many people will look at God
The same way they look at their fathers on Earth
You see, Men were charged to lead their household
To be accountable
To be the image of Christ
To their wives and to their children
And when that is damaged
Or when that is broken
There are some things that take place in the lineage
And the heritage that’s passed down
The legacy could be corrupted throughout the years
But God can heal those years
He can restore what has been broken
It feels like
Somebody turned off the lights
Every time that you leave me
This isn’t easy
La, da, da, da, da, da
Isn’t easy
It feels like
Somebody turned off the lights
Every time that you leave me
This isn’t easy
La, da, da, da, da, da
Isn’t easy
Apart of you lives in me
But how’d I get less of a portion
Maybe it’s the empty
Got me feelin like an orphan
A knife to my soul
Emotional abortion
Spent my life tryin to be someone important
Scarred in the heart
I was hard in my heart
Everyday a war in the dark
I push us farther apart
You taught me bout cars
But I couldn’t ever get it
Flash back
I didn’t wanna remember your visits
Fulla hate in me
Had so much pain in me
Momma couldn’t change it
God please take this from me
Caged deep in grief
That nobody knows
Surrounded by space in this place
Cuz nobody’s home
So I kicked dust and pulled my hoody up
Searching for acceptance
But never felt good enuff
Lookin up
For a figure as a man
How can I learn to walk
When I can barely stand
Spent so many years
Cryin tears of anguish
Which I believe led to the fears I’m stained with
My heart became dark
Like eerie parts of the basement
Ugh, I was filled with this hatred
And when you came around
I began to resist
All you saw was a young man with clenched fists
Thought I had life figured out
But then came the question
Will I ever extend you the forgiveness
It feels like
Somebody turned off the lights
Every time that you leave me
This isn’t easy
La, da, da, da, da, da
Isn’t easy
It feels like
Somebody turned off the lights
Every time that you leave me
This isn’t easy
La, da, da, da, da, da
Isn’t easy
You exist in memories so distant
At times I can’t recall if they’re fact or fiction
I was spoon fed poisonous lies
Became a victim
Anger left unchecked
Could only grow more bitter
Took a wake up call for me to reconsider
That’s when truth came out
Now I’m needing your forgiveness
Black notebook
Ink covered in heartache
I saw how the big picture looked
It made my heart break
Never wanted you to leave
Then the light went out
Darkness cut my heart
Like a knife inside and out
I search to find words
That could make up for the damage done
Found one way to break it down to the Dad I love
The Lord Jesus, He set me free
When He healed my wounds
Cuz His love went deep
Drowning in a river of grief
Fighting just to breathe
Til the light shined on me
And now I can see
I’m on my way back home like the prodigal
To reconcile with the man
I never got to know
See, life is lookin past all of the thorns on the rose
Every feeling of anger, betrayal
They gotta go
To everything it’s a season
And now’s the time to heal
Years go by
Only God knows when our time is near
Heard the Words of my Father in heaven
I know why I’m here
Christ turned the light on
And finally my life is clear
Once I was blind and corrupted by lies
Yes I have seen and now I am free, yeah
La, da, da, da, da, da
Yes I’m free yeah
Don’t want you to die
Without knowing Christ
So repent and believe in the Name of Jesus
La, da, da, da, da, da
In the Name of Jesus
