The Wayside

The Wayside is a historic house in Concord, Massachusetts. The earliest part of the home may date to 1717. Later it successively became the home of the young Louisa May Alcott and her family, who named it Hillside, author Nathaniel Hawthorne and his family, and children's writer Margaret Sidney. It became the first site with literary associations acquired by the National Park Service and is now open to the public as part of Minute Man National Historical Park. more »

And it's difficult
To find the one you're destined to sustain
For years to come, and years to go
The feelings grown and gain
This is not a storybook
Or another fairy-tale
What we have is guaranteed
What we have is real

And I know I'm not the only one
Who thinks about these things
For years to come and years to go
The feelings grow and gain

I've been dyin'
To sing you a song
And I hope you'd sing along
When you come home
I've been dyin'
To sing you a song
And I hope you'd sing along
When you come home
I've been dyin'
To sing you a song
And I hope you'd sing along
When you come home

Digging through the rubble
Of my shattered house of mirrors
So this is what it's like
To face it all, without fear

I'm not playing
I think she and I
Can take the world by storm
We got a stable boat
Anchored by each others' hope

And I know we're not the only ones
Who think about these things
I'm positive that you and I
Will make it all the way

I've been dyin'
To sing you a song
And I hope you'd sing along
When you come home
I've been dyin'
To sing you a song
And I hope you'd sing along
When you come home
I've been dyin'
To sing you a song
And I hope you'd sing along
When you come home

Let's see what we get
When we mix you and I
I'll be the red
You can be the blue dye
With a single stroke
We'll paint a pretty picture together
It's you and me forever

Let's see what we get
When we mix you and I
I'll be the red
You can be the blue dye
With a single stroke
We'll paint a pretty picture together
It's you and me forever
