I'd like to think that my fuel tank is still pretty full
And there's so much potential in that, I could go almost anywhere
I could drive far away, I could drive through the night
I love driving at night you can go fast or slow or however you want
And there's so few souls in their own cars with which to share the road

I think about how often I'm alone when I drive
How that seat to right remains vacant
That's okay I think
There's nothing wrong with being alone 
If you like your car and are happy with the roads you drive on
I like being able to think for myself so uninterrupted
I wonder though, would the trip be better with someone to talk to?

I've had people fill that seat before
Road-trips are undeniably better with someone there
It's useful if you get lost to have someone to read the signs to you to help you find your way
People seem to like riding with me but they always get out when they get where they're going
Can't we just keep driving?

I tell people that I'm a good driver and I honestly believe that I am
I'll drive slower if it makes you more comfortable
Please just let me know if that's what you prefer
We can listen to music if you want to, I'll try to keep some CD's in the car that you like
But sometimes my CD player doesn't work very well on roads that are rough
And there may be times when we have to drive amongst silence

All things considered I drive pretty safely
But when you share the road mistakes will still happen
I really hesitate to get into cars unfamiliar and let others drive me
I fear for the day someone takes me back to a parking lot
But time goes by and slowly I regain the trust necessary to letting another guide my wheels

I encourage safe driving but I recognize that driving a car has an inherent risk
I will argue it is a risk worth taking
Other cars may crash into mine, cut me off, side-swipe me
I must certainly keep my spare tire ready
Driving is chaotic, but there is a beauty in chaos
