Nineteen Eighty-Four (also published as 1984) is a dystopian social science fiction novel and cautionary tale by English writer George Orwell. It was published on 8 June 1949 by Secker & Warburg as Orwell's ninth and final book completed in his lifetime. Thematically, it centres on the consequences of totalitarianism, mass surveillance and repressive regimentation of people and behaviours within society. Orwell, a democratic socialist, modelled the authoritarian state in the novel on the Soviet Union in the era of Stalinism, and Nazi Germany. More broadly, the novel examines the role of truth and facts within societies and the ways in which they can be manipulated. So I walked in last night and you saw me
Wasn't really in the moment thinking too deeply
Lots of lights, too many nights spent in places like this
Sometimes I think I'll quit it but every other weekend
I'm like yeah babe lets hit it for the thrill of it
Even though I'm not new to it
Is that beer or kombucha somehow we get through it
So why does it even matter to me
Maybe it's alright if I'm lonely
Or is it? Sometimes I feel blue
When it's late at night and I think of you
Its a pity I don't even know your name
Its a shame I don't know if you feel the same
I'm just a shy girl, in a big world
Tell me what to say I'll be your mockingbird
You walked in the other night and I saw you
You didn't see me notice but that's how I wanted it
You're what I thought about, I just don't know how to say what I mean
From you, I don't know how to say what I need
If I could I would run to you at the speed
Of light, maybe not tonight but another night definitely
You know how it is with me
I just don't know how to do this thing
How to talk to someone when you think they're pretty
Do I drink more? Do I smile a lot? I don't know
Guess it's just the thought that counts
Gotta get my confidence up, figure out what to say
Figure out the right joke to make, or what am I wearing for goodness' sake
So why does it even matter to me
Maybe it's alright if I'm lonely
Or is it? Sometimes I feel blue
When it's late at night and I think of you
Its a pity I don't even know your name
Its a shame I don't know if you feel the same
I'm just a shy girl, in a big world
Tell me what to say I'll be your mockingbird
But you know, sometimes, I guess it's not worth it
Life lesson in front of me, guess its time I learned it
