I've never been to New York City
But the thought has got me wondr'in
If my life will ever take me there someday
Maybe there I'd meet somebody
Who would teach me how to fall in love
Like the movie stars and writers wish they

Wish they could talk about when nights get colder
Spending lonely evenings gettin' older day by day
Shivering in the cold and empty 
Thinking if this don't change then we'll wither away
Mmm that feeling's seeping into your bones
Thinking anything is better than alone

I can tell you're growing weary
And I guess that makes the two of us
We'd always thought we'd work it out someday
You're frustration ain't so pretty
When you're trying to remember
How the hell we even got here anyway

The dusty tattered picture frames
Of memories long forgotten on the other side of the road
Teardrops falling trying to remember 
Voices screaming saying, You don't have to do this alone
But naturally on deaf ears they may fall
And we wonder if it's worth the say at all

Oh darling I know you're tired of the way things seem to be
But I'm beggin' please don't give up on this now
I never want to end up like those movie stars you see
All alone and broken down

With their softly flickering fireplaces
Hangin' onto shadows fading, tryin' to ease their minds
But bricks and mortar crumble 
As the wind and rain beat them down down over time
Till all that's left is rubble and dust
So I thank the Lord I never needed much

I've never been to New York City
But I've got a sneaking feeling
If I packed my bags and went I'd see you there
Well that ain't bad in theory
But honey we both know
If this winter's cold we're freezing as a pair

Frost clouding the windowpane
And cold breath whisp'ring maybe we weren't
Meant to make it at all
It feels like we've been frozen 
Since we burned out, and our ashes flew away
A long time ago
Never to be seen again
