Can you hear me Snacks for the Revolution Volume 2 This is long overdo This song is 4 years old now Somehow still relevant I was angry when I wrote it I'm not angry anymore I'm annoyed Like it's time to say something "I'd like to speak to the manager please, if I could, thank you" It's like change is attainable, but you've gotta speak up and get noticed first So I wrote this To be honest I'm a little nervous about the whole thing The Politics, the rapping Cuz I don't wanna be divisive But I've gotta lot to say And I wanna say it quickly You know While there's still time Just boosting my guy It was March It was Phoenix It was hot already It's a dry heat I had been here for 4 years at this point Every summer hotter than the summer before We're setting records all the time It's a dry heat I get this email on a Thursday afternoon My man Bernie Sanders is coming to town on Saturday I'm thinking cool man He's talking about the climate He's talking about inequality, student debt I've seen some speeches on the internet I wanted to know more Next morning I get another email (So many emails) Donnie T's coming to town too, same day They're looking for people to hold protest signs, And I'm on school vacation so I'm free in the morning I could make it to both things Saturday morning I drive out to Fountain Hills Find a big group protesters Pick up a sign that says "stand against islamophobia" I remember thinking: I don't know the first thing about being Muslim I keep my beard long and like to fast every now and then, is that a thing? I know I'm not afraid of Muslims I remember that trip we took when we were kids When the only kid in our class to get frisked by the TSA Also happened to be the only mixed race kid in our whole group We were 12 years old, what was he gonna do? He was so upset about it Fast forward 2016 I'm holding this sign, walking into this rally silently, just trying to get to the rest of the group This older woman with a cross around her neck puts her middle finger in my face Her husband put up his fists He was gonna fight the guy in front of me Cuz the guy they're there to support has been running Around the country spouting all sorts of crazy stuff, telling people to hit protesters on their way out the door You hear him say that? You hear a worl- oh my god I can't even call him a world leader I'm tripping on my words (Sigh) This song is about that day And your right to vote Not because elections are fair And not out of fear But because you believe in a better world I should probably get into it huh Before it's too late It's not too late It's not too late Thanks for listening It's a revolution Tell your friends Here we go What are the odds My hero shows up on my first day of spring break And I'm excited cuz I'm feeling the Bern and I have been for a while now But all I can think of on the night before when I can't sleep Is how I must defend my country Can you hear me, Mr. Trump? Bernie didn't send this What you're doing is wrong So please go home I call my mom Breathing, consciously calm Everything is fine I didn't get arrested I used my privilege My white American privilege And I held a sign I was in the wrong place at the right time But I'm glad I did it because now I know for sure Something's not right here any more Never know what a person might do When you tell your listeners When they see you To hit you I know you heard me Despite the space between us So the media wouldn't see us I'm not some hippy with a prius I'm a teacher And I try to be respectful But enough is enough dude You need to careful With these racist comments and bigoted lies Can you hear me now? look me in the eyes When a peaceful person gets assaulted You say it's ok? that's your fault My mom calmed me down with a 10 word answer Said "I believe in you like you believe in Bernie Sanders" You can talk about the truth You can talk about fairness You can start a revolution You can save this planet if you Vote, vote, get out and vote I'm not the only one who's rocking this boat We could tear down the walls Build up the masses Never have to deal with a small-handed fascist No no no no no Get out the vote Can you hear me, Mr Trump?
