I met an old man 
At a local burn out bar, he was
Nursing a whiskey 
And smoking a long cigar 

He told me his wife cheated
Left and broke his heart
And now he drinks at night 
To keep out all the dark

I asked him
How do you make it through the day?
What keeps you going now that she has gone away?
He closed his eyes a second
Tilted his head
Told me something I don't think I'll 
Ever forget 

He said
I don't pick the music

She's sick of pouring beers
She's worked here every day

She used to dream she'd have a 
Big acting career 
But she just never made it out of here

I asked her

She said the best advice that 
She had ever heard
Was from the old man sitting next to me
