Vile creatures lurk
Hiding in the dark
Banished from our sight 
Bastard creations forsaken by fate
Abominations

Mad experiment 
Gone horribly wrong 
Calculations flawed
Errors went unchecked 
And disaster struck
Science of the damned

Somehow they survived
Taking different form 
Altering their genes
Mutations induced
Features modified

Human at one time not that long ago
Searching for a cure to a rare disease
But they failed

Unsuspecting fools were led to believe that the research here was legitimate
As they lie in wait they could not have known when they threw the switch their fate would be sealed

Prolonged exposure to radiation
Lethal dose
Deadly gamma rays should have killed them all
But they lived

By the time they realized what was going on nothing could be done
There before their eyes a new form of life that should not exist

Rather than destroy them for years they were restrained in glass containment tubes
Tested and observed
Methods inhumane
Spawning hatred

Keeping them alive was their first mistake and would be their last
Power grid went down
Backup systems failed
And they escaped
Memories of freedom in the recesses of their collective minds

Driven by rage they break their bonds and seize their chance
Vengeance theirs

After the first scientists were discovered torn limb from limb
A futile attempt was made to subdue and recapture them
But to no avail
These monsters they've created have superhuman strength

From the bunker deep below through mazes of concrete and steel
Unable to stop them
They make their way above
Killing as they go

Generators still offline nothing can prevent their escape
Nothing left between them and long-awaited freedom 
Their nightmare finally ends
And ours begins

Instinct to survive
Taste for human flesh
Thrive as we decline
New dominant race has evolved

There is little hope that we will survive now that they have been set loose on the world
Ceasing to exist our species has been relegated to a mere memory
