The sun has baked the land into submission
I don't know when or how I lost my way
There's not a sign of life in all directions
I haven't seen a town in several days
I miss the gray of storms and roar of thunder
The smell of asphalt in the summer rain
I have to tell myself that I can make it
But who knows when I'll see a cloud again

Well I'll be fine, when I get back to water

I think my mind is shriveling from attrition
I see the shapes of friends rise from the sand
They tell me I have made it to perdition
But disappear when I stretch out my hand
I miss the sound of laughter by the river
The coolness of the water on my skin
I have to tell myself that I can make it
So I can feel the river once again

The sun has turned my skin a shade of crimson
My eyes are much too dry to shed a tear
I've screamed a thousand times to hear the echo
And maybe someday someone else will hear
