I was seeking therapy, 'cause I had something new to say
I had never got the chance to tell someone I feel some way
Got a check and went downtown to give a doc my verbal stew
And tell him why I feel so bad, with no loss, no point to prove
The sinking feeling started back in 1993
It’s been a downward spiral since the moment I could see
Spent a lifetime falling down and getting to my feet
Daddy shrugged and stood me up, said go son, let me be
Alcohol was brought into the picture just a bit too late
everyone already had their wings and i was a lightweight
drinking became practice, practice always ran too long
and i fell into liquor like a drunk falls into song
Shrink said son, let’s get it straight—your daddy’s not the one
just because you can’t let go don’t mean you need to run
And then that shrink said maybe the cure is in the pain
It’s like he never heard me, didn’t even get my name
Of course, this is only the good part
The pain has always been the best
But now I’m facing the void, uncertain
I’m terrified by what comes next
