My life's full of broken promises and faded dreams
But life shouldn't have been as hard as I made it seem
I thank God that my momma always prayed for me
Ain't no telling where my choices could've taken me
She knew that I was capable of anything
Even though I had doubts about my self esteem
It was hard but ain't nothing in life coming free
Its not about what but who you know to some degree
I still rose to the challenge maintained my balance
All the confidence that was loss turned around and found it
Kept myself grounded all hope seemed gone
Cuz all the people that I counted on all wrote me off
But today is new day focused on a new way
Quit saying that its too late to write yourself a new fate
A man once said you gotta drop it like a huge weight
Off of your shoulders stay away from the vultures and you'll thrive

We went from trapping to rapping
That wasn't good enough
We went from sagging to suits
It wasn't good enough.
We went banging to hoops
That wasn't good enough.
No matter what we do still seems it's never good enough

We went from trapping to rapping
That wasn't good enough
We went from sagging to suits
It wasn't good enough
We went banging to hoops
That wasn't good enough
Put our hands up
Don't shoot
But they shooting us

Don't pray for us
Make a way for us
Don't play with us
It's not okay with us
What you say to us
All the hate for us
What was made for us
You try and take from us
All the problems in this country that's Facing us
Systemic racism disgracing us
Yeah we know God has a plan
Yeah equality is all we demand
How can I see this and not say something
Take everything and still give nothing
Now is the time we have this discussion
Now is the time we fix social injustice
Time we wake up and let the world take notice
We shouldn't feel fear whenever cops approach us
Signed a contract America fell in breach of
It's our job to speak up
1st amendment freedom
I stand as a leader with my fist in the air
And hope for the ones not willing to care
Its a shame that America is in this state
Driven by the greedy entitled to hate
400 years still going through oppression
87 people arrested for protesting
No question
All lives can't matter unless the black lives do
This is not a debate but actual truth
We've been patient waiting on you
Only thing I can do is pray for you

Can I live is what I scream like Jay Z back in 96
They spray us with tear gas but still we rise behind the mist
Mask on mask on still singing this sad song
America the beautiful is a term they all had wrong
How can we trust in so many lies
How can they deny our God given rights
Can I keep my eyes on the prize
Without being judged for being black in this life
