Who am I without my story
Without my name 
Without my gender
Without my race
  
Who am I without the boundaries of age 
Who am I without traditions and dictates

Who am I without the history of slavery 
And the diasporic march that tried to break me

When I take these things away what lies beneath? 
Is there anything really real or is it just belief

Can I celebrate all the traditions and yet know that they are not me
Can I see the distortion of racism, the e-race of  history

Can I honour the pain of those past and yet know that the past is not me
Can I honour a race, a movement and still be able to see that

I am more than this
So much more than this

I Am here to ask these questions 
Go deeper than these surface tensions
I Am here to find the answer 
And go all the way

If I meet one who judges me as less than
And themselves as more than 
Do I have to agree
Or can their opinion be just that
An opinion, only given power by me

And If I come across systematic injustice 
Do I need to wail and bemoan my fate
Or can I dig to the root of that distortion
And find, another way to play

Can I choose to use the master's tools 
To dismantle the master's house
And if the master's house is built on lies
Then don't worry
For Truth must always come to pass

And if that be so, and so it is
Then that house must crumble to dust
Under the weight of Truth's convictions
It all goes beyond mere trust

I Am here to ask these questions 
Go deeper than these surface tensions
I Am here to find the answer

And though constrictions may last an hour
A day or centuries of time
Know that something in this world is 
Always moving towards greater freedom
Because true Freedom travels untrammeled by
Societal and cultural games
It's inexorable unfolding so clear
To those who have eyes right here

So who am I without my story
I'm the Awareness of it all

I see me in you, and you in me
All our hurts, our positivity
Our fear and our love
Our dark and our light
Our hopes and our dreams, universe-ality

I see our judgment
Our acceptance
Our loneliness and our love

There's a greater story, leading us all to seek
