I don’t want this song to be bigotry
I’m simply speaking ‘bout history
It lives in me, heavenly thoughts when I think of these reveries
Let me speak my experience with images living, please
‘Bout the ink that has branded the paper
The stories embedded in artwork
A truth that was just saved for later
Got a million more stored in an Arsenal
To find a fraction of time in the linework
To find essence within every brushstroke
And to look for what’s stored in a painting
Every story been told by Picasso
Told by the Dürers, told by the Van Goghs
Told by the artists, told by the vanguards
Told by the people, which, to a canvas were lassoed
Embedded in stone by the people who the craft then had mastered
And the skill generations passed on
Throughout all this time, almost never forgotten through pieces of work they had drawn
And their time, still with ours, in a bond
For the artist in us to grow strong
And with time they composed us a song
And now we are the ones who are singing along
And we’ll die as a witness
Die with the richness
Die with materials that they made to gift us
Ride and move forward with all that are gifted
And through years of composing
Years of meticulous crafting has shortened our wishlist
Granted our wishes by grinding the image
Sharpened our vision with art that was finished
And hardened our senses by making us witness
That sketches can change our perception and image of a world that is littered with riddles
Every line that I draw with my pencil
Is a line that still carries that tension
From the grip of my hand while erasing
And the tip of the pen that is dancing
Above the surface in white that is now being marked up with passion
Every dot being marked with attention
Is a process seemingly calming but it’s filled with intention
Carpal tunnel my battle scar
Stained clothes, watercolor jars
Paint that I drink in my cup is the fuel that I need to have driving power
Start as a seed and through practice then bloom to a flower
Sun is devoured, and emotions come down in a shower
Of thoughts and they flow like a river presenting our power
Maybe we’ll die but our pieces forever on walls
Hanging us up so we know we’re not letting you down
And if you give us a platform and tools then our eyebrows are not gonna frown
A bottle of paint that is thrown at a canvas and “plow”
Bubbles and colors then turn to a crown
Images silently loud (Yeah)
Look at the image I drew on the cover you’re looking at
Take it in, pay attention and look through the looking glass
All of the answer you need always there, they just staring back
Find every meaning you need when you look at that
