Another trip around the block We race against the midnight clock You take my mask, I don your cape This ploy requires unfamiliar shapes Returning to the same front doors We'd trick-or-treated hours before And one by one the neighbors pour The candied sweets and chocolate treats galore But as I marveled at our feat We must've wandered off the street For now the only house I see Is draped in night and tucked amongst the trees I hesitate and then I hear A thrash of leaves - you've disappeared But I've no time to call your name Something's come out from that house, and it's heading my way I'm paralyzed with shock and fear With patient strides, it's drawing near My pillowcase of treats in hand The last defense against this demon-man I break the trance and back away Said "I'm sorry to be out so late" And when he laughed I saw his face And felt such fright that I took flight while the monster made chase He had a pumpkin head With hollow eyes of flame He smelled of rot and death I felt his breath when he screamed my name The moon was full and red I thought I had escaped But when I turned to look, his fingers tore my cape I made it out somehow And met my friend in town We never found that house Just candy wrappers on the ground Devil's got a sweet tooth And my pillowcase, too So next year when i trick-or-treat I'll settle for one round of sweets Just stick to the familiar streets And stay away from pumpkin-headed creeps
