Isle of Arran, island of dreams
Childhood holidays, memories for me
We'd take a ferry across the Clyde
To that special Arran isle
At Christmas we suffered a Boxing Day dip
But I preferred a Waverley trip.
Scotland in miniature I've often heard
Caused by a fault line that occurred

On a fine day we'd go up Goatfell
From the top you could see so well
Across the Clyde or to Kintyre
We were glad it wasn't much higher
Our caravan was in Whiting Bay
And for the week that's where we'd stay
In the next caravan was a lad called Rolf
We'd go to Brodick and play crazy golf

The Highland Games take place every year
Our dad made sure we would go there.
They would be opened by Lady Jean Fforde
The pipe band would play the opening chord
The athletes would run so fast on the track
They'd run right round and then they'd come back
On the field the strong stout fellows would
Throw something heavy as far as they could

In summer you feel a light breeze in your hair
You can stroll on the beach without a care
A solitary yacht carves its way through the sea
The waves gently lapping, kids play on the beach
On a winter day the waves crash to the shore
They crash up and over the Whiting Bay wall
Which scene better plays its part
It's the mix of the two that captures my heart
