Fountainhead

The Fountainhead is a 1943 novel by Russian-American author Ayn Rand, her first major literary success. The novel's protagonist, Howard Roark, is an intransigent young architect who battles against conventional standards and refuses to compromise with an architectural establishment unwilling to accept innovation. Roark embodies what Rand believed to be the ideal man, and his struggle reflects Rand's belief that individualism is superior to collectivism. Roark is opposed by what he calls "second-handers", who value conformity over independence and integrity. These include Roark's former classmate, Peter Keating, who succeeds by following popular styles but turns to Roark for help with design problems. Ellsworth Toohey, a socialist architecture critic who uses … more »

Don't let anybody tell you about your struggle
Everybody's got their own struggle
It's about if you used your struggle to evolve
Or if you just use it to define yourself
They used to make me go to AA for probation, right
And I used to hear these guys define their entire existence by their most pronounced weakness
But me...I write my personal history based on my triumphs, not on my losses
A loss is just a triumph you gave up on or either when the clock ran out
And if the clock ran out, you better get ready for the next game, the next season
Or the next life time

On my South American Drift
Where the jungle is the only Amazon that exists
No Bloods without Crips
No profit without risk
You can pump your fist, you can slit your wrist
You can sit in front of the mirror, and wonder why you exist
And why you gotta get old and die
You can cry, you can laugh
You can think about the past
You can wish that time would slow down or go fast
I was down by the equator
Above the sea
I just happened up on it when I was lookin for weed
And there was Macchu Pichu, for the really reals
Way up in the hills, lookin down at drug deals
It was 1980-something, Medellin, George Jung
Noriega, CIA, crack, wiretaps, and guns
And Nancy Reagan started sayin "Just Say No"
But everybody you know had a nose fulla blow
Cause Sam had a gang and Erica had caine
And all they wanted me to do was move a few thangs
Yeah Sam had a gang and Erica had caine
And all they wanted me to do was move a few thangs

But I...I can't call it
Better ask someone else about it
Cause I just don't know
So you can bump it on down the road

I can't call it, I can't call it
I used to sit through those meetings and listen to those alcoholics
I used to get fucked up and fall on my face
I used to huff paint, you used to freebase
We used to get chased sometimes we got caught
Almost all of us went to prison and some got shot
So tell me was it the hip-hop, the heavy metal
The parallel universes, trailer parks and the ghettos
The middle class home that grandparents owned
In an oil field town that never through me a bone
Cause I have a Mind of my own
And nobody can tell me where I can roam
And nobody can tell me who to pray to
I can worship the dirt of the Earth if I want to
And guess what...alot of people do
And it worked for 50,000 years in the jungle, you jerk
You flirt with the devil on Halloween
But you don't really know what the Day of the Dead means
If this was the military you'd clean the latrines
And if this was jail you'd find out what hell means

But I...I can't call it
Better ask someone else about it
Cause I just don't know
So you can bump it on down the road

The Popul Vuh, Tupac Amaru, and the INCA
I Now Create All, I Am the Sphinx huh
Yeah if you only knew
That you are the Sphinx too
I grew up in juve but who's fault was that
Was it me, the judicial system, or where I was at
Who knows where the flow goes...I can't call it
But everybody wants to know what's in your wallet
Erica was chewin coca leaves out in the field
And Sam was busy politickin on Capitol Hill
For the really reals, I was way up on Macchu Pichu
Where the KnowLedge might reach you

I... I can't call it
Better ask someone else about it
Cause I just don't know
So you can bump it on down the road
