I woke up from a fever I was flying down the highway on a Greyhound bus Feeling like a fly on a ribbon, breathing recycled air I woke up from a nightmare I was standing in a gas station parking lot Listening to the cicadas hum away another day I was up to my waist in the grave, in a tangle at the bottom of a bag I was crawling through the wires and the glass, trying to make my way through all that dead space Then I was staring out upon the great divide with acid tears in my eyes All full of shadows and holes trying hard just to let in a little light I woke up from a bad thought Every single thing I touched would turn to rust I was feeling as hopeless and helpless as a fly in a web I woke up from a vision I was staring in horror through the war, as it unfolded like a terrible flower Spitting flames and leaving everything burnt in it's wake Well it was all white flags of retreat, empty husks and howls on the breeze I was wading my way through the ash, trying not to hear the static and dead Then I was caught under an evil spell, hoping to drown in the wishing well I was laughing half way down to hell, to clashing swords and the chiming of the bells
