The curtain of the smoke that's stung my eyes

As it is swallowed in the throes of a gutted sky

With every breath reclaimed, another mournful sigh
As Earth shudders beneath my solitary steps
As the last of her creation spills forth its life
I am left to await the coming of death

In a stale cycle's close
The echoes of
What I have come to know
Linger unobstructed
Over ash that falls like snow

In tired resignation I find
Myself buried in the pieces left
Of an ever-distant time when this life less resembled death
In quiet desperation, I climb
Over piles of the ones who rest
Beneath the shade of the cracking sky
Cracking bones with my every step
