There are very few of us left now
I've mostly wandered the wastes for so long

I've scavenged for what I can
Tried to build, grow, every step of the way

We had attended to the remaining and dwindling livestock

And was en-route back to the house
In a flash something moved
Before I could react and reach for my holster
Blair was taken in a chaotic full body grip
Whatever had her was masked
By the dark and the underbrush
She was unable to yell before she was taken
The thing bounded over the electrified fences with Blair
No moment was wasted
I chased after them with Luna by my side
Luna barked desperately to where Blair should have been
I called to Luna as I reached the main entrance to the farm
Fear and panic had a hold of my heart
That is the only reason I didn't see
The blow to my head happening

I heard a yelp from the creatures
As Luna defended me
And in an instant both creatures disappeared
With Blair in their grasp
They were big hunched over and scaly
Both creatures were like oversized geckos
With inflated features and a deadly purpose
This was a coordinated strike on the farm house
I had to find her
I couldn't delay at all
I'd heard rumour of such creatures
I returned back to the house with Luna
And began searching the storeroom
For supplies and armaments for this journey
I knew that these creatures
Had been reported up in the hills
By the beginning of the mountain range
Creatures of the occult
I had to find Blair
I would not relent
I had to leave Luna in care of the house
There was enough food and safety here for her
So I packed my rucksack, sidearm, navigational tools
And food before locking up
One single thought in my mind
Blair
Initially the land was relatively kind and flat
However it did not last long
Things changed very quickly in this endeavour
The first of many obstacles introduced
The irradiated parts of the old town the old ways the old life
It was deadly to breathe in
The other scavengers inhabiting the crowded urban parts
Of the old town posed great issues
Unless navigated properly
In the horizon I could see the mountain range looming closer
I followed the tracks and trails the creatures had left behind
Creatures unrelenting and vicious
Occupied the outback area
And further springs outwards of the towns and cities
I would not relent
