When a politician campaigns
This politician always, always is making believe
They know that what they're saying on the campaign trail is not true
They know and we know that they have been costumed
They have been scripted
They have been prepared
They have been rehearsed
It's more tightly scripted than a Hollywood movie
"Make belief" is when these kinds of actions
Create a substrate of belief that people are willing to die for
The most obvious examples are, of course, religion
When someone believes in divinity of Jesus Christ
Or the profit of Muhammed
That Moses led the children of Israel
Or that Vishnu took a human form
These things are not in doubt for the people that believe them
And in actually performing the rituals
In the Jewish seder
Or the Christian communion
Or the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca
Or the Ramlila in India
These actions, these performances actually create the belief
They create a reality
