Watching the palm trees

Just a young child didn't know why
There was a war going on
But I became aware as my life went on
Packing our bags cuz my life was in danger
Death was no stranger knocking on our door
And our only way I was to leave El Salvador

Before we hit the friendly skies
Not knowing whether we would survive
On the journey that lay ahead
Would we end up dead?
Only god knew our destiny

Would make it into this country
Crossing by land through the Mexican terrain
On our way to the city of rain
Walking through the hot desert sands
My Mom with my baby bro in her hands
Risking our lives in order to survive
Was the reality of thousands that fled
The bloodshed of the warfare of the 80s
With immigrant babies
