The Flames

The Flames was a musical group from Durban in South Africa. The band was originally formed in 1963 by guitarist Steve Fataar, bassist Brother Fataar (real name Edries Fataar), drummer George Faber and guitarist Eugene Champion. However this line-up would only be together to record a couple of songs. Ricky Fataar replaced George Faber as the band's drummer around 1964 and Edries Fredericks replaced Eugene Champion as the guitarist. Baby Duval briefly replaced Edries Fredericks in 1967 although it is unclear whether he was involved in any of the recordings that were released. Blondie Chaplin then replaced Baby Duval in 1967. This was to be the line-up from 1967 until their demise as a group in 1970. more »

You've got to give a little, take a little
And don't you know you have to let your heart break, just a little
That's the story, that's the story of
That's the glory, that's the glory, the glory, the glory of love

You've got to laugh laugh a little, you gotta cry just a little
Yes, you have to let the crowd walk by, just a little ( That's the story)
Oh that's the story of, that's the glory, the glory, the glory, the glory of love

And as long as there's the two of us
We'll have the world and all of its joy
And when this old world is through with us
We gonna ride, love is all, well don't you know
That you got to win a little, yes and you gotta lose just a little
Darling you always have. darling you always have the blues just a little
That's the story, well that's the story, that's the glory, the glory, the glory, the glory of love

Yes, you are way up on top now and you wanna be free
And you feel you're too good, much too good for nobody like me
You're afraid to present me to your friends and accept, so darling I guess it's best that we should part
For how soon you forget the fine, fine things I've done for you
And just how a little taste of success has gone right straight to your pretty little head
I hold in my hand dear, three letters, from the stage of you fine, fine, super fine career
The first began, darling my sweetheart, my wonderful one
I will always be grateful for the things you have done
The second letter came right after I gave you your start
Yes, it came from your pen dear and not from your heart
The third came the joker of the pack, you ended your letter enclosed
Please sign my cheque, why you fool
You poor sad, worthless foolish fool
If you think that money can pay me for the hard years I've suffered
Till things went your way, yes I'm answering your last letter that says we must part
I'm tearing it to pieces, the way you tore my heart
I smiled when you kissed me and I fell to your touch
My only sin is that I loved you darling, yes I loved you, much too much

You've got to win a little, yes and you gotta lose just a little
And darling you always have. darling you always have the blues just a little
That's the story, that's the story, that's the glory, the glory, the glory, the glory of love
That's the story of, that's the glory, that's the glory of love
