Eyes skyward - stepped through charred remains
Of little gardens of human skulls
Where children played their games
My sight stuck
On distorted and disfigured landscapes
Held hostage - crying for help
Hands bound and mouths taped

I keep close brighter thoughts
Folded like origami
While I cling to the pillar's edge
Awaiting the tsunami
It was probably all the tension
That I kept inside my body
That made me see futility
In the life of every carbon-copy

Like you, I found peace
In a forest bed of leaves
Until machines successfully killed the universe in me
Like you, my day progresses
Till I travel out in dusk
The erosion of time and elements will whittle me down to dust

I leave footprints - I put rice in my stomach
Just to feel it rise into my throat, When everything begins to plummet
Some say existing is accepting every sentence
And the future is both guaranteed
And a thing of legend

I buried my loved ones
Under tens of feet of ice and snow
I left a piece of me and went
To find out where the road would go
The scene was so familiar
The path led back to their graves
Only now winter had subsided
And a pile of corpses remained

Black heart, black eyes - charcoal on my feet
As I descended to the valley and reveled in its mystique
Came across a river that reflects what one seeks
Looked upon my own face and saw the mark of the beast
I saw

Visions of a burning sphere
Floating through time and space
When I was young I was always taught
The rabbit lost the race
Knowing you just sunk
Can sometimes feel like a blindside
Because the top of the world
Can be underwhelming in hind sight

I pulled myself from this all-consuming vision
To engage in every part of living that I had been missing
A doomed existence can still have intrinsic meaning
Depending on how our thoughts and intentions are convening
And on the river bank I wrote my story in the sand
Grasping an oak branch with bruised and beaten hands
The water widened like the mouth of a serpent
And my words were swept away by the intensifying current

The scorched earth caved and crumbled with the facade
Decrepit branches ascended in defiance of the gods
The skies erupted in a cacophony of thunder
The cataclysmic torrent came alive and pulled asunder
I'm feeling cloud-bound - cast like skyward rays
Drifting down the stream - eyes closed
Hoping for brighter days
The storm cleared to reveal a gilded gate
And as I pass under those arches I am reborn with a clean slate

I buried my loved ones
Under tens of feet of ice and snow
I left a piece of me and went
To find out where the road would go
The scene was so familiar
The path led back to their graves
Only now winter had subsided
And a pile of corpses remained
