12 minutes of silence and no motion from my pen
12 months since the 12th night of our struggle
12 days and 12 nights

We slept on these cold streets

Intimidated but our hearts never tenderised
What happened to our brothers and sisters?
Swallowed by their own motherland
The same motherland we struggle for

This was all we were asking
Was it wrong to demand accountability?
Was it wrong to speak up against tyranny?

After sweat came blood on the 12th night
After crying out came tears on the 12th night
Everytime I close my eyes
I see the green white green covered in blood
The Nigerian flag stained by the blood of its own citizen
All because it became a crime to express criticism
These blood shed will never be in vein
These blood shed has ushered in the rain
The rain of change
Let these rain flow and wash away iniquity
Let these rain flow and wash away Impunity
Let these blood flow and wash Away cruelty
Let these blood flow and wash Away tyranny
Let these blood flow and wash Away oppression
May we never forget
The sacrifices of the 12th Night
May we always remember
The impact of the 12th Night
May the memories of our heroes
Live in our hearts forever.
May their bravery forever be a Source our strength
Yes we love to colour our hairs
Yes we love to braid our hairs
Yes we love to use nice things
And drive luxurious cars because
We worked hard for it
Yes we love peace in our nation
But we would not falter
When we demand change
