Walking Wounded

Walking Wounded is the ninth studio album by British musical duo Everything but the Girl. It was released on 6 May 1996 by Atlantic Records in the United States and Virgin Records in Europe. The album saw the group adopting a more electronic and dance-based style, following the success of the remixed version of "Missing" from their previous album, Amplified Heart. Four tracks from the album were released as singles, including the drum and bass-influenced "Walking Wounded" and the house-influenced "Wrong", which became top ten hits on the UK Singles Chart, as well as the downtempo track "Single", which set Tracey Thorn's emotionally direct vocal against breakbeats, organ and strings, and "Before Today". more »

I can only give 'em what's left
I can only give 'em what's left
My best

They say music can heal 'em
Tell me you believe it
Open up the ceilings cause, we've been here before
And I don't need more reasons
All about my thesis
Kids excel at recess
So open up the doors

I've been blushin' and gushin' since the cherry popped
Big bad beast in the bush, now that's a scary thought
I'm not on some sick shit, tramplin through your lady's fields
Im talking bout deep woods, creatures that can make you squeal
Vibrant colors, you would swear it's really there
Old man I met on the road told me not to stare
Captivated, it's got me in a trance, a message in a glance
We've met here before

I'll wait with one foot in the grave in a foreign place
Til' it's all in my head, when I hear it again I'll come around

Oh you're in a foreign whip? Well that's the same shit
I've been on my black stallion got the reigns stitched
Little Sichi hits, ooh that's the feature
Hooves trottin' over these keys, word to Alicia
Feels like a heater, in a two seater
With the one that you like or in the studio huggin' the mic
I'm in love with the life, or maybe I might
Just be frightened as hell but you could never tell
Cause I've been in this fantasy land, wave hi to me
You're cast in a real world dream, it's my movie
I even got the theme music, let me write to it
I'll probably roll out with the credits and no credit
Spit front to back with my verses, a few edits
Known to go hard on a bitch, you can ask Heather
And even if I weren't derranged and less better (My best)
Still wouldn't lay down or catch Zs til the last letter

They say music can heal 'em
Tell me you believe it
Open up the ceilings cause, we've been here before
And I don't need more reasons
All about my thesis
Kids excel at recess
So open up the doors

I'll wait with one foot in the grave in a foreign place
Til' it's all in my head, when I hear it again I'll come around
I'll wait with one foot in the grave in a foreign place
Til' it's all in my head, when I hear it again I'll come around
