It started out in a little town just west of Arkansas.
A crooked judge hung my daddy cause he loved my mama.
Well that same day I met a man named Sure Shot Tennessee.
And he said, “Son if you wanna survive, then you best come with me.” 

Well Tennessee taught me forget loneliness and pain.
He said, “Boy, don’t you hold that grudge. Justice is my game.
You just say the word and I’ll have that judge beggin’ on his knees.”

I looked in the mirror and there I saw Tennessee’s green eyes.
And like a muzzle flash it all came back, and I knew what I had done.
Like Jekyll and Hyde on that whiskey ride, Tennessee and I were one.
