Stephen (Greek: Στέφανος Stéphanos, meaning "wreath, crown" and by extension "reward, honor, renown, fame", often given as a title rather than as a name; Hebrew: סטפנוס הקדוש, Stephanos HaQadosh; c. 5 – c. 34 AD), traditionally venerated as the protomartyr or first martyr of Christianity, was, according to the Acts of the Apostles, a deacon in the early Church at Jerusalem who angered members of various synagogues by his teachings. Accused of blasphemy at his trial, he made a speech denouncing the Jewish authorities who were sitting in judgment on him and was then stoned to death. Where do we go when we die?
One of life’s tough questions
Is it reasonable to believe in Heaven?
Does our final breath signal final separation?

When we speak at funerals
do we say we loved someone once
that it ended
that what makes them is in the past
Do we say
“Hey, it was a blast,
but who you are was destroyed by death!?”
NO!
We say their soul lives on
they’re in a better place
lodged in our memories
survived by family and legacy
Consoling words but
they can’t be substantiated
Comforts disguising unease from the gut
won’t make death propitiated
SO!
Why believe?
Love is in the present tense
If we can’t say that forever then our hearts our contained
constrained by time
and I’m just a bleeding heart with a hemorrhaging mind
take them away and you’ve got an empty human with eyes that are blind
take away eternity
we lose part of humanity
part of mankind

If you can only make the going easier from point a to point b
might as well live a life of vanity
live life by example
do what makes you happy
be respectful to company
don’t be crabby
just discard your dignity discreetly
keep your life confidential
all your actions are now conveniently inconsequential!
Right and wrong fade to irrelevance
without God one man’s evil is another’s decadence. 
If there’s nothing later
life and death are two sides of the same coin
we’re all schmucks with no luck.
Living for a future of blackness
seems to stab us through
leave us heartless.
If there’s nothing at the end
there’s no harness
we let go
close our eyes, drownino darkness.

Wait a minute!
A God who made hell is ruthless, right?
Hell doesn’t make Heaven so bright!
You can’t have love without justice
Last time I checked 
the peak of human enlighten-ment
isn’t entitlement
The doors of hell are locked from the inside
God doesn’t damn anyone there
It wasn’t made for us
He died to keep us from that fiery affair
And we blame God, cuss, and make a big fuss.
When we are asked to accept someone’s love and reject it
should it be expected
that they’ll take care of us.
Let’s throw standards under the bus.
Hush little baby
don’t feel down
even if you don’t trust in me
I’ll reward you when you turn away with a crown?
We can’t have it both ways
open your eyes, 
No one wants you to eternally die!

If love and humanness do not end
we don’t want to lose our identities, loved ones, friends
In the words of Jesus Christ,
“You are My friends if you do what I command.
Love one another as I have.
You are no longer slaves, take a stand.
A slave doesn’t know what his master is up to
everything My father has shown me
I have made fully known to you.”
“Greater love has no one than this,
that one lay down his life for his friends.”
Let’s set the record straight
until the end
the Lord is your friend
and He wants you to live forever man.
You’re the apple of His eye
you are to be treasured.
No one deserves it
but to desert this
is like tearing an acquittal
dismissing dismissal
taking a missile
letting life fizzle

Heaven is not a shield from reality
nor an excuse for abuse
Its purpose is not so obtuse
If you had your hopes up, sorry
It’s not a never-ending praise and worship party
It’s not church for eternity
So why would God want you there?
God loves you, His creation
He wants to spend time with you
they’ll be 
no more death, no more dying
no more pain, no more crying

This is my prayer
that when I’m with God
someday I’ll see you there
That you know His heart
that his priority has been you from the start
Now and then 
I’ll prepare a place for you
wait for you
pray for you
cheer for you
hope for you
I’m on your team
even if we don’t agree
I’m with you till the day I can’t breathe
and everyday after
I’m going to do what He called me to do
I love life and I live you
