Desmond Carter

Herbert Desmond Carter (15 June 1895 – 3 February 1939) was a British lyricist who worked with George and Ira Gershwin, Ivor Novello, and others, and also wrote one of the first English language versions of the notorious "suicide song", "Gloomy Sunday". He was born in Bristol. In 1924 he wrote most of the lyrics for the London musical Primrose, for which Gershwin wrote the music, his first commission outside the US. The musical was revived in 2003, when one reviewer wrote: "...by far the most outstanding contribution to Primrose is the comedy lyrics of Desmond Carter, who penned the words to seventeen of the score's twenty-two songs and collaborated with Ira Gershwin on four of the remaining five. My foot in the door, like it of not. Y’all moving slow like you’re Vicodin poppers. I move faster like Molly capsules, nothing new highly adaptive. Spoil my boo f*ck all you ratchets. Loyal to my niggas, my crew active. Combat about that action, I’m one headache you can’t heal with an aspirin. Kill you bastards, pay for your casket. It’s lent season, I’m still fasting. I’ll let you go but I’m still gonna tax you. I’m flexible really elastic. I play it cool, but really dramatic. I’ll give it to you, you still can have it. I’m bipolar mix it and match it. I switched subjects now I’m kicking asses. My bad, naw nigga your bad. You’re lucky it’s a bloody nose could’ve been a toe tag. Hoe ass trying me must be smoking crack. Slap spit out your mouth and you know that. Petty thief yellow teeth old broke ass. Beaming up to Scotty on the low ass. That’s how you turn a friend to a foe fast. So sad.

Know it’s the truth if I open my mouth. Don’t waste a breath, every one counts. Priceless shit I’m talking about. Batter up haters I’m striking you out.
Know it’s the truth if I open my mouth. Don’t waste a breath, every one counts. Priceless shit I’m talking about. Batter up haters I’m striking you out.

Money on mind, shit on my heart. World on my shoulders unlimited thoughts. Nuts with the rhymes, lyrics are sharp. One of a kind, this shit is art. Running with busters and chilling with thots. You stand for nothing, sit in one spot. Front like you’re hustling and really you’re not. I’ve grown accustomed to niggas who lie. Eat by the pot sleep by the pot, shit by the pot you should be in the pot. One thing about G, G got a plot, a grand scheme to get off the block. Not in the way like a nigga got shot or a nigga got caught, but a nigga got smart. I’m in that phase where I’m driven by God, and I won’t get derailed if you’re with me or not. I’ll give em hell for I give up my spot. Sacrifice nigga, bitch what you thought. Step on my grounds weapon is drawn, cancel niggas like checks that bounce. I’m not playing, the memo is out. My attitude is like Oscar the grouch. They’re gonna frown, they’re gonna pout. Batter up haters I’m striking you out.

Know it’s the truth if I open my mouth. Don’t waste a breath, every one counts. Priceless shit I’m talking about. Batter up haters I’m striking you out.

If my mouth is moving, I’m chewing I’m eating. Silence if it ain’t no truth that I’m speaking. Reality reeks in the booth no secret. No shame in my game, take it or leave it. Hate it or love it, however you’re feeling. Respect is earned and never a given. Blessed with wisdom from clever niggas. Greedy, Twan, my nigga Quinten. That nigga Streets been everywhere with me. Life is a bitch and a hell of a teacher. Pick up my grind and I carry me. Tens twenties my nigga Benjamin. How you get rich and you’re constantly spending. My Jewish friends taught me to sit on it, less you’re investing it, I call it flipping. Double what you would get, triple what he would get. Quadruple shit, now you believe in Fix. Bitches on my dick, hop out my ride hoe. You wasn’t here before, why’re you here now hoe? Thought I got deal? Thought I hit lotto? If I did, I wouldn’t buy you a taco. M.O.B. is part of my motto. When I take the lead, I suggest that you follow.

Out! Striking you out. Out! Batter up haters I’m striking out. Out! Striking you out. Out! Batter up haters I’m striking you out. Know it’s the truth if I open my mouth. Don’t waste a breath, every one counts. Priceless shit I’m talking about. Batter up haters I’m striking you out.
