It's crazy how I give a tour of a place
Where I'm unsure if I liked more for my face
Or more for my race
Thinking back, I'm sure that I graced
This school with my presence, pressing forward with grace
I talk about all the support from my base
It's definitely there, I swear, all over the place
Neglecting to mention it took so long to locate
But at least they didn't make me have to pay

It's crazy how I been an RA for years
And never once have I not cared for my peers
I know not caring is one of my four daily fears
I feel appointed to do it, really more than a dare
But then again, how much can I really owe to their care
When I'm sure they'd drop the hard "r" if I did
Anything else besides sports, cars, occasionally bars
Drop a little food here and there, but don't let 'em get caught
Punishment isn't a thought to a star
They're too far away to give it thought
So, when someone mentions it at all, it's completely off the deep end
"A conversation's what we need, all we need is reason"
Well, tell me this then, and give me three reasons
Why a family gives 30 bands for a season
I'm getting paid to be here by you
And I'm serving them, being ignored by you
I guess the shackles on me never really moved

It's crazy how I'm finna write a thesis
When the tea, sis is piping, find a reason for me to seal it
Back in high school, they called me "Genius"
When I got here, I was basically a heathen
A pepper flake in the salt-shaker again
Destined to be the Black kid in the paper again
Put me up as the chem crackhead, honestly, I embraced it
Now it's too late, the name's attached, and I hate it
Imagine facing a situation every class that you end up taking
Where you taking the class is you painstakingly being seen as a good one
Or the basis for their hatred
You start trying to prove you belong
Then you realize you've been doing that for too long
My family would bear the best they could, I gotta be strong
But the issue is, the opportunity is long gone
Cuz the fact you're hearing these bars is cuz I'm here
As one of the few Black people on campus, y'all know that I'm here
I put myself in situations so my face could be seen, what a plan here
Now I'm pretty sure I'm known by at least a friend of a friend, what a trap here
Cuz while my name means "Master, Leader, and King"
I've taken money from the white man as a tool to get in
I ignored the fact that for four years, I didn't really fit in
But because I didn't have a choice, I'd have to do it again
