The Night Watch

Militia Company of District II under the Command of Captain Frans Banninck Cocq, also known as The Shooting Company of Frans Banning Cocq and Willem van Ruytenburch, but commonly referred to as The Night Watch (Dutch: De Nachtwacht), is a 1642 painting by Rembrandt van Rijn. It is in the collection of the Amsterdam Museum but is prominently displayed in the Rijksmuseum as the best-known painting in its collection. The Night Watch is one of the most famous Dutch Golden Age paintings. The painting is famous for three things: its colossal size (363 by 437 centimetres (12 by 14+1⁄2 feet)), the dramatic use of light and shadow (tenebrism) and the perception of motion in what would have traditionally been a static military group portrait. My friends have always been a little bit older
That's why every day's a little bit colder
I've been always just a little bit lonely
I know why my friends leave me
But that doesn't make it easy
I wait in line, they're already inside
They'll be gone by time I'm there

And I'm scared
That I'll never stand still
That I'll waste these years of my life
And I just want somebody by my side
But it'll never last long
They're always gone
By daylight

My friends are heading out tomorrow
I see dust rise on that long road
I wanna go where they go
I was always just the pre-show, now I don't know
If they even miss me, if he even sees me
I hate to feel this deeply
I'm begging, please, don't leave me

And I'm scared
That I'll never stand still
That I'll waste these years of my life
And I, just want somebody by my side
But it'll never last long
They're always gone
By daylight

Can't you just wait for me?
Can someone please save me?
I'm lonely
I'm breaking
And nobody's taking their time
Nobody's taking their time

My friends have always been a little bit older
That's why every day's a little bit colder
I've been, always just a little bit lonely
I know why my friends leave me
But that doesn't make it easy
I wait in line, they're already inside
They'll be gone by time that I see daylight
So I'll see you tomorrow night
Just save me a seat
I'll be alright
