There is a beautiful valley in northeast Tennessee
Where my folks tilled to raise their food and family
With firm prayers and strong they managed to reap what they'd sown
On their hillside homestead that sat off the Back Valley Road

On GOD faith and family is where their foundations were laid
Where they lived off the land everything, they had was homegrown
Tucked in the hills and the hollows off the Back Valley Road

Every Sunday morn' you could hear those church bells ring
Amazing Grace filled the air as Red Hill's church choir would sing
Then the preacher would tell how JESUS could save their souls
From that little white church house that sat off the Back Valley Road

Off the Back Valley Road where mama and daddy were raised

If we all could live those simple lives once again
Where loving each other could take us back, where it all began

In these changing times I long for my childhood days
When we'd visit our gramma still lived by her simple ways
But you could tell that her life must have been a tough row to hoe
