Lady Eleanor

"Lady Eleanor" is a song written by Alan Hull, featured on the first Lindisfarne album, Nicely Out of Tune. Initially released as a single in May 1971, it failed to chart. In 1972, following the success of the band's single "Meet me on the Corner" (which reached No. 5 in the UK), and the highly successful second album Fog on the Tyne, it was re-released and became their second consecutive hit single, reaching Number 3 in the UK charts. Its B-Side was "Nothing But the Marvellous is Beautiful".The song features the folk rock band Lindisfarne's characteristic combination of mandolin playing (by Ray Jackson) and close harmony singing. Its lyrics are inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's 1839 short story "The Fall of the House of Usher".The verse is in the key of B minor,… more »

The nights we drank so much
Our memories in the gutter
The thought of what could've happened
He pinned me to the wall and said
Just pull yourself together
This is a cruel world we live in
And I'm just young and dumb and as lost as they come
I'm terrified of growing up
But I'm the only thing he's thinking of
Like I'm swimming in his blood
Even though he knows I'm no good
And this is love in all of it's glory
This is love in all of it's glory
And the boys fight and they burn up on the street outside
Toxic masculinity high and dry
And all my friends just drink to forget cos
That's what we do round here
Fist fights to finish the night off
And we're just getting by on our dead end jobs
While your Daddy's in town betting on the odds
We're here sharing your single bed but
What more could we want
This is love in all of its glory
And this is love in all of it's glory
This is love in all of it's glory
See this is a broken run down town
Pull our heads under the covers
We're all getting out at some point
We might just wait a couple of summers
Loose ourselves in nights out and smoke till we can breathe
Watch my back and our cut up knees
See this is a broken run down town
With your brothers, your sisters, your mothers
We're all getting out at some point
But some are better at running than others
Loose ourselves in nights out and smoke till we can breathe
Watch my back and our cut up knees
And we'll always have each other
We'll always have each other
This is love in all of it's glory
Oooh ooooh
Oooh ooooh
Oooh ooooh
Oooh ooooh
