The wind moved gently through the gorse
Like a secret that had never been told
The day felt like an answered prayer
As I reached and touched a blood red rose

I can never see a rose and not remember
That there were thorns and a cross on a hill
To me it's not an old religious symbol
It's where time and place crossed and the world stood Still

I walked through a valley full of questions
I picked up the ones I was afraid to ask
Clouds moved like linen mysteries
In the distance waves groaned and crashed

I reached the sea that had called me
Now I stand and wonder at every sight
Where sound is bolder and deeper
And darkness fights and yields to purest light

For a moment I could hear and see tomorrow
Where lightning danced and thunder called
The sky held the black rain and wrestled time
While an old pain waited for the fury to fall

I stood on the shore where dimmed promises
Disappeared behind boiling emboldened clouds
The lightning came sneaking around me
And cared not for yesterday's curses or vows

It was hard to know if the greater storm
Was in the rising sea or the falling sky
When hell breaks in and takes a storm
It intends no mercy for it has no eye

Dreams are dashed against unshakable rock
As storm and stone refuse to relent
Every hope is slammed one by one
As fear steals the time it takes to repent

I hide my eyes and lose sight of the pedals
I pray this blows over and reveals the morning star
My back to the wind and my face to my knees
God are you here let me know if you are

If this storm is you God I need to know if you're in it
If this storm is me calm me now I pray
Before the next gust of fear finds me weakened
And I fall to the next hellish Wave

Today the wind moves through the gorse again
But now the secrets have all been told

As I have found and touched the blood red rose
