Walked out the door on a winter's night
The air is strangely warm and the sky's unusually bright
Bright
So I paid a visit to some hometown streets
The dusty, cracked concrete starts reminding me of those
Neon lit drive-ins and those rich and red canyons
Bittersweet memories
Of our road trips way back in our 50's Cadillac
Those simpler days
And it's just not the same
All these pictures in my brain of those motels and cafés
And seeing everything has changed
Going down this same old road
Those days are long gone
Of those pink skies
Of past summertimes
Through the fleeting breeze
Of old memories
I feel them taking me
To those sparkling nights
Pictures frozen in time
To our younger days like we're driving away
On a Southwestern Highway
As I roll down my windows I'll dust off the old radio
Remember waking up to the Elvis Duran morning show
I'll pass by the deli that we'd visit every day
Back when all of our friends were just a phone call away
When our eyes were full of hope
Being young and dumb and broke
In a fever dream
A fantasy
All those times when we were young
Running away and getting sprung
Those simpler days
And it's just not the same
Now I take the freeway
With all these bags of today
Feeling trapped and drained
Going down this same old road
