So of course I had to fight that cop
Who was her brother
Who treated her
Like some surrogate mother
While their widowed father
Stayed drunk in his wheelchair

Then we picked each other up
And brushed off the dust
Went for a beer
As such men must
And put the world to rights
And agreed life wasn't fair

Meanwhile the ex-con ex-husband
And father of her daughter
Pulled out his gun
And said that he oughta
See us all in hell
If she didn't come home like she was told

So imagine the scene
In the town's main square
With all us characters
Standing there
Waiting for the climax to unfold

But life ain't like the movies
It never runs so smoothly
I blunder and I bluster

Remember where we left them
In the middle of the street

Well, it turns out our girl's

Well she spit in his eye
And she gave him what for
While brother got behind him
With a two-by-four
And put out his lights
But only temporarily

So the con gets a cell
And the cop gets respect
The couple get each other
Even dad stops getting wrecked
And the town gets the wedding
We all wanted to see
