Histrionic and vain
Driven by jealousy and spite
He glowers across his littered desk
His gills distended and purple

Smooth pebbles in a jar
Hazy air gilded by sun beams
Hirsuit chest rising and falling
Musky scent wafting through the slats

I tread most gingerly
Through the minefields of his ire
A step ladder looms ahead
A way out - a flooded cul-de-sac

Determined not to have his panic show
Jeremy pats down his tie and looks me in the eye
"I don't know where you're going with this story

I stroke the handle of the big pipe wrench
Its rusty jaws sticky with blood and matted hair

Looking down on the dark piss stain spreading from his crotch
