Joe Goodson

Joseph A. Goodson (December 1, 1876 – August 29, 1924) was a college football player and physician. He was a quarterback for the Vanderbilt Commodores football team; captain of the 1898 team. Goodson led the team to its first conference title in 1897. The team then played a contest with Virginia for the championship of the south, a tie. The Nashville American reported that, "The Vanderbilt players were in a jolly humor yesterday with their miniature football pinned upon the labels of their coats. Joe Goodson, quarterback, was apparently out of training from a large ten-cent cigar he smoked, a gift of Benjamin Childers of Pulaski. 'Tab' Farrell had his hair cut and other members were more or less changed in appearance." more »

All my time goin’ through the weeks and years
I’ve always heard this dream
The tones are smooth and the theme is oh-so-sweet
Priceless melody

The days go by and the sound just seems so far away
Jobs and bills and schemes, oh
My life is fine but I ponder ‘bout my time
Are my best days behind, oh whoa baby

I could stay here down on the safe path on the same track, maybe
Mediocrity forever, oh
Afraid to say goodbye to lots o’ things, don’t run away crazy
Comfortable defeat, however

La La, I hear the sound of my voice inside singin’ loud, baby
I’ve got to make these dreams come true before my time is over
La La, this is the sound and it won’t go away, hey hey
It echoes and it carries through my heartbeat and my motor

La La, I hear the sound of my voice inside singin’ loud, baby
Fearless and inspired to light up the whole world over
La La, this is the sound and it’s just here to stay, yeah hey
I’ll do what I showed up to do...if I’m 18 or 80
It’s never too late

Lonely winds and the same old life affairs
Passions unexplored
Sometimes I feel like no one really cares
Dreams behind closed doors, oh whoa baby

Am I satisfied with what I’ve made, and all that I’ve paid lately
To keep on climbin’ this wrong wall, oh
Along the lines of all these paper chains, and all everything plainly
Stuck and stifled and forestalled

But La La, I hear the sound of my voice inside singin’ loud, baby
I’ve got to make these dreams come true before my time is over
La La, this is the sound and it’s just here to stay, yeah hey
I’ll do what I showed up to do...if I’m 18 or 80
It’s never too late

I’ve got to...go ahead, roll that dice, take my chance
(Plan my liberation)
Try my hand, call the shots, undertake
(No more quiet des’pration)
Take the plunge, pioneer, endeavor
(New horizons real soon)
Venture out, on a ledge, on the edge
(Edge)
Follow my dream

Not gonna go through life just runnin’ scared, talents never shared, baby
Drowning in my comfort zone
Not goin’ to my grave with my song inside, unidentified, shady
Ain’t gonna dig my own death row

I know the ride may not have the perfect road
Nothin’s guaranteed, oh
Stormy skies and sometimes rain and snow
Much uncertainty, lack of safety

I’m throwin’ caution to the wind, attack it like my life depends on it, now
The time is right to just begin and go

La La, I hear the sound of my voice inside singin’ loud, baby
I’ve got to make these dreams come true before my time is over
La La, this is the sound and it won’t go away, hey hey
It echoes and it carries through my heartbeat and my motor

La La, I hear the sound of my voice inside singin’ loud, baby
Fearless and inspired to light up the whole world over
La La, this is the sound and it’s just here to stay, yeah hey
I’ll do what I showed up to do...if I’m 18 or 80
It’s never too late, open that gate, break off those chains

I’m goin’ to...reach the sky, soaring high, like a bird
(Things’ll come together)
Rise above, hit the top, though the clouds
(It’s now or never)
Never die, fly so high, through the sky
(Over the moon)
Touch a star, go so far, light the world
(World)

Follow my dream
(Follow my dream, follow my dream)
I can hear it sing ah ooh
(Sound of my dream, sound of my dream)
I can hear it sing ah ooh
(Sound of my dream, sound of my dream)
I can hear it sing La La

I can hear it sing La La
