I've never been so happy out of my depth
You scare the shit out of me and I like it

Is it possible to be
In awe and in love

Bask in your glow as we're making the rounds
I make you laugh when I worry I bring you down
Shuffle me off to another new set
Hoping you won't introduce me with the way we met

You say
Just shut up and be here
Trust I mean it
When I say dear
Don't you dare
Even answer
Just be quiet and
Hold my hand dear

How are we doing tonight you asked a crowded hall
Then quickly joke who cares, it's non-refundable
In the silence, in the front row, in your thrall
We locked eyes and I blurted out you're wonderful

Met again in a bar that September
I could tell by your grin you remembered
Made excuses and conversation
Loved the latter, but gentle frustration

Said
Just shut up and be here
Trust I mean it
When I say dear
Save the jokes
For driving home
I'll let you know
If I wanna be alone

I've never been so happy out of my depth

If I'm a riddle, I'm deceptively simple
If I've Mona Lisa's smile, it's a misplaced dimple
If I've any humor, it's absurdist
Like the jester ending up with her

Surely my mystique is bounded
I'm not so deep I can't be sounded
What will you do when you've found that
I'm right

Will you let me go
Let this pass
Either way I wanna be here
While it lasts

I've never been so happy out of my depth
You seem scared when you mumble under your breath
That you've never been so in love

Just shut up and be here
Trust I mean it
When I say dear
It's not just
Idle flattery
There's nowhere else
I'd rather be
