I was always gonna love you
It was sculpted in the moon before we were born
And passers-by and Christmas lights
Couldn't stop it if they tried
So you and I took all the time that we could
Maybe if you weren't so matter of fact
We could've scattered the facts
Until we wasted time
Looking for clues
And years would pass and I'd look up
To find I had spent them with you
No empty chairs around the table
That fill more space than the crowded room
No missing call on Christmas morning
The loneliest joy and the happiest gloom
So I light a candle for every time you cross my mind
And it lights up the room
They ask when I am going home
It's that time of year
The question is on all their minds
They seek the kind of warmth and safety
That they know we'll never get back
Say that we long for December
But we long for Decembers past
Maybe if you weren't so matter of fact
We could've scattered the facts
Until we wasted time
Looking for clues
And years would pass and I'd look up
To find I had spent them with you
No empty chairs around the table
That fill more space than the crowded room
No missing call on Christmas morning
The loneliest joy and the happiest gloom
So I light a candle for every time you cross my mind
And it lights up the room
I'm the loneliest ghost
I've been dreaming of you
Showing up at my door
But you're not the type for midnight calls
Well wherever you are
Whoever you got to be
Hope as the snow falls
You spare a prayer for me
And whatever this is
Whatever I tried to say
I hope it works out for you and your dreams someday
While you're travelling home
I hope all the lights turn to green
And I hope that home is all it's supposed to be
Merry Christmas from past me
The empty chairs around the table
That fill more space than the crowded room
The missing call on Christmas morning
Loneliest joy and the happiest gloom
But I light a candle for every time you cross my mind
And it lights up the room
