An open letter to my family

We got family ties, tighter than twisty ties
Tangled terribly all together in a drawer next to the knives

My brother I grew up with you, you were my first friend

But you're an amazing human being, now I'll shout it out loud
You're kind, caring, compassionate, and intelligent
Hell-bent on lending a helping hand to everyone that you can
As an EMT, man you're hard to beat
In every video game we played since 2003
I started strong and you got better
I plateaued quickly, you were sharper than cheddar
We both went to college and you actually got through it
We all knew it would happen, we can see that I blew it
But you supported me when so many others didn't bother
Shoutout to my mother, brother and father

Though some have passed on, though some are far away

My cousins growing up, we were close to each other

We grew up as best friends, hung out every day

It's these memories that keep me feeling real
We've been through shit, but we keep getting better
We've weathered many storms even snow in November
Spent ten days that year going on without power
Started going to school before we could even shower
Used to build houses out of clippings from the mower
Never saw inside the barn, but we saw it fall over
Rugrats livin' under a wonderful roof
With a grandmother who has nothing to prove
Everyone who has has been lucky to meet this lady
She practically raised every generation's babies
Over an old set of Lincoln Logs, and several board games
At Camp Granny, by the brook, or on a walk through the rain
You scared us to Hell when you went to bore a hole
Always kind and compassionate, never lost control

As a grandma and a person, as an actor and a goal
You created the tear-resistant life bonds we see today
